PSU football player placed in ARD

BELLEFONTE — Penn State football player Knowledge Timmons was placed into Centre County’s Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program Thursday, enabling Timmons to eventually have criminal charges against him dismissed and his record expunged.

Timmons, a special teams player and backup defensive back, was charged in October with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Police said they responded to a fight at the HUB-Robeson Center on Oct. 7. Timmons was not involved in the fight, but was swearing loudly, and overturning furniture while looking for his cell phone, and refused to leave when told to do so by police, court documents state.

Centre County Judge Thomas King Kistler placed Timmons in ARD for 12 months, essentially probation, and ordered him to serve one day of community service. If Timmons completes the program and is not arrested again, the charges will be dismissed.

Tractor-trailer crash closes Route 322

A tractor-trailer crash near the top of Seven Mountains on U.S. Route 322 closed the road in both directions for two and a half hours beginning about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver, Vernon C. Vrooman, of Sioux Falls, S.D., was traveling west on Route 322, carrying dry Kraft food products from Dover, Del., to Bismarck, N.D.

He was climbing the grade of Route 322, nearing the top of Seven Mountains, when he missed a gear in the tractor-trailer, reported Mifflin County Regional Police Department.

The tractor trailer, owned by MCT Transportation LLC, of Peru, Ill., drifted backward about 160 feet, then jackknifed through the center concrete barrier and crushed about 20 feet of the barrier, police reported. The truck stopped on top of the barrier.

Two arrested on felony drug charges

Two people were arrested Monday by Lock Haven city police on felony narcotics charges following an investigation that involved the Attorney General’s Office and Pine Creek Township Municipal Police, the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Kaloni Jones, 29, of 5564 Windsor St., Philadelphia, was arraigned on two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (heroin), and one count each of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance (cocaine) and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.

Jones’ bail was set at $249,999.99.

Holly Lynn Morgret, 23, of 411 W. Martin St., Avis, was charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine), one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one county of criminal use of a communication facility. Her bail was set at $150,000. Preliminary hearings are set for May 13.

Tourism society inducts local members

Two State College representatives were among the first 18 Pennsylvanians inducted into the Keystone Society for Tourism by Gov. Edward G. Rendell.

Betsey Howell is executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau and Rick Bryant is executive director for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.

The society honors Pennsylvania visionaries in destination leadership and community development, and inductees were selected by the state Tourism Office in consultation with the governor’s Tourism Partnership.
