- pbosak@centredaily.comA woman was in serious condition Friday after being struck by a car while walking her dog along Lower Georges Valley Road in Potter Township Thursday evening.
Joleen Martin, 30, of Spring Mills, was flown to Geisinger Medical Center after the crash Thursday and underwent surgery Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Martin was walking her dog with her sister on the south side of Lower Georges Valley Road about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old boy from Centre Hall, state police at Rockview said.
Police said the driver of the car lost control on a curve, went off the right berm, then crossed the roadway to strike Martin and her dog, police said. The impact threw both about 25 feet into the woods on the south side of the road.
The car then crossed back over the road to the right, where it hit a ditch and rolled over, police said.
The dog was treated by a local veterinarian, police said.
The driver of the vehicle and his passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Spring Mills, were not identified by police because they are juveniles. Both were wearing seat belts and neither was injured, police reported. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police said.
