Last year at about this time, I wrote about the “Triple Witching Fortnight,”1 a two week period when we mark three important anniversaries in the saga of the disappearance of former Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar. Those same anniversaries recur this year, a nexus of anniversaries in the Gricar case.
First, is the one that we all mark, a birthday. Today is the 66th anniversary of Mr. Gricar’s birth. If Mr. Gricar is alive, and reading this, happy birthday Ray! Even after nearly six and half years, there is still interest in what happened to Ray Gricar. That is perhaps the best birthday gift we can give.
Second, September 30th last marked the 18 month anniversary of the Parks Miller review panel. Since last year, there were some new developments. There will be more on the investigation later.
Third, on October 15, 2011, it will be the six and half year anniversary of the disappearance of Mr. Gricar. We know a little more about that disappearance today than we knew last year at this time. We know more about the disappearance than probably even the police did in the first week of the case. That is progress.
“Progress” however, has not solved the case. It has yet to answer the question, “What happened to Ray Gricar?” It has been six and a half years, and we still don’t have an answer for that question. We’ve reached this nexus, learned more, but we’re still not close to a solution.
