Mercer Co. man charged in buggy hit-and-run

- The Associated Press

State police say a Mercer County man was arrested and charged with fleeing from a hit-run accident that critically injured an Amish man and killed his horse.

Police say 29-year-old Timothy Fredrick Alter ran into the back of a horse and buggy early Monday on Route 358 in Perry Township.

Twenty-two-year-old Erven Byler was thrown from the buggy and the horse was killed.

Police say Alter fled the scene.

Police say they acted on a tip Tuesday and arrested Alter at his house in Transfer.

Byler is hospitalized at St. Elizabeth's Trauma Center in Youngstown, Ohio.
