Mercer Co. man charged in buggy hit-and-run
- The Associated PressHADLEY, Pa. — State police say a Mercer County man was arrested and charged with fleeing from a hit-run accident that critically injured an Amish man and killed his horse.
Police say 29-year-old Timothy Fredrick Alter ran into the back of a horse and buggy early Monday on Route 358 in Perry Township.
Twenty-two-year-old Erven Byler was thrown from the buggy and the horse was killed.
Police say Alter fled the scene.
Police say they acted on a tip Tuesday and arrested Alter at his house in Transfer.
Byler is hospitalized at St. Elizabeth's Trauma Center in Youngstown, Ohio.
