It is bad enough that Miles Township does not respect those who fought in the Vietnam War, to properly honor them for their respective service apart from those who were just serving in the service at the time. They categorized everyone as Vietnam era veteran. Nothing done to denote the Vietnam veteran? At the latest township meeting, a Desert Storm veteran, who is legally also a Vietnam era veteran, asked for his name to be put under the Desert Storm War so his future generations would know he fought there.
The township flat refused. They said a veteran’s name would only be displayed once. No exceptions. Guess it doesn’t matter to them that a veteran may want credit for service in a real war zone versus being noted as an ERA veteran who was only in the service at the time of the war and did not serve in the combat zone? I brought this up before about a deceased Marine friend of mine who was in the same situation. They also did nothing. The monument is still not historically accurate and never will be till such time as they get accurate source data ( DD-214s ). Why Miles Township doesn’t properly pay respect to it’s veterans is a question you need to ask them. Please attend the meetings and demand proper respect for our veterans. They earned it.
