It was interesting to read in Friday’s CDT that now that the NRA has given Glenn Thompson and his Republican colleagues permission to look into some limited gun control that involves bump stocks for semi-automatic weapons the GOP is talking about addressing the issue. I wonder if Thompson and his colleagues can get permission from Grover Norquist and his Americans for Tax Reform to finally look at some real tax reform that just does not benefit the wealthy. Maybe they can even get permission from the coal and gas lobbyists to tackle the issue of renewable energy.
Some GOP members have defied the president on a few issues, but they sure do not defy Wayne LaPierre, the NRA or Norquist. It does make one wonder who is actually running the country. Whose interests are Rep. Thompson and his colleagues representing?
