Although all details will not be finalized until the end of September in Stockholm, there is certainly cause for concern in what has been revealed by the fifth assessment report of the Physical Science Basis of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
If global carbon dioxide levels double (expected by 2100), global temperature rise will likely be in the vicinity of 9 degrees Fahrenheit.
Climatologist Kevin Anderson says this is 2 degrees warmer than a level that is “incompatible with organized global community, is likely beyond ‘adaptation,’ is devastating to the majority of ecosystems and has a high probability of not being stable.”
A predicted 3-foot sea level rise alone by the end of this century would be catastrophic. Many major cities will be flooded, including New York, Miami and New Orleans.
Millions, if not billions, of environmental refugees would be forced to flee inland. Such sociological upheaval could bring disease, famine and war to many parts of the world.
Don’t believe the willfully ignorant and anti-science types who say global warming isn’t real.
Look about at the spread of West Nile Virus across Pennsylvania, the slow disappearance of certain edible forest mushrooms around Happy Valley or the decline of the smallmouth bass fishery in the Susquehanna Basin.
All of these facts have been definitively linked to global climate change.
