When material science broke with Aristotle and brought modernity, end dropped from physical explanation. And so machines derived from this vision have no limit and thus an unnatural infinity in the sense that sky limits the ground.
So now, as these artifacts like genies from the bottle overfish the ocean, cut down the forests and swallow the air in pollution, we must reassert limits correctly.
Now the city alone unites the world. And when we remember here how Charles Schlow and later Sidney Friedman walked our streets, welcoming hospitably everyone they met, this gravity and decorum do provide measure that, even at this late date, can replace the machines and save the world.
At the center of the city, which balances sky and ground, is the human face. Morally, this makes all the difference. It explains the very stars.
