Thank you for the excellent Jan. 9 article (“The conspiracy to keep you fat”) about the powerful ways food companies manipulate our food choices.
It’s important to note that many major food manufacturers — General Foods and Kraft, for example — are owned by Big Tobacco, notably Philip Morris (now Altria Group). It isn’t much of a stretch to assume that Big Tobacco is using its devious marketing expertise to move customers from cigarette addiction to fat, carb and salt addictions.
I suspect they didn’t reform when they were convicted of lying about the addictive properties of tobacco — they just moved on to other “menus.”
