U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson had an ad in the official program for the 2014 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts telling us “It’s an honor and privilege to serve the people of the 5th District.”
The Roll Call in the July 14 CDT shows Thompson voted against HR 4923, which would have increased funding for renewable energy and energy efficiency programs and decreased funding for fossil fuel research.
Thompson has also opposed every effort by the Environmental Protection Agency to clean up our air and water, so we can expect him to oppose EPA’s new rule to cut carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants. This new rule will begin the process of getting off these dirty fuels that are contaminating our air and water and fueling global warming.
How can voting against energy efficiency and not supporting initiatives to clean up our air and water be serving us? It’s clear our U.S. representative is serving the status quo with the oil and gas industry trumping everything else.
This fall, we have a great candidate in Kerith Strano Taylor who will truly serve us in Washington. She will vote for the interests of everyday people, not the industries that have us by our wallets.
