I cannot remain silent about the recent column “ Rethink ice cream as a summer treat” (CDT, Aug. 4) by Becky Long. The message is “don’t treat your children to ice cream because it is loaded with neurotoxic ingredients.”
For example, she writes that cream is often brimming with antibiotics, hormones, pus and myotoxins; Sugar can be toxic, and eggs are produced by chickens that are generally fed moldy grains...”
If that were the case, the Berkey Creamery at Penn State would be required to post a disclaimer warning that ice cream can be toxic for your children.
This column is filled with inflammatory words and many, many untruths. It is popular these days to use such inflammatory language to grab people’s attention; however, this person did not check the facts.
I am wondering if the CDT does any fact-checking before publishing columns such as these.
