John Harris’ admonition to Chinese students to retrace and savor the land (“ Return to the land,” Sept. 5, CDT) ignores the sea as welcoming them. To swim or not to swim is not the question. Spawning salmon do not seek retribution, just gladness.
The sea is always full of water and many other things and conveys big boats. Earth takes you nowhere, remaining the epitome of mulch and flatulence. Harris’ references to the economy disregard the nation’s annual celebration April 1. When the streets are full and their outcry resounds: “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.”
