I was taken aback when reading the front-page headline “Obama defies GOP, voters” in the Nov. 28 CDT. The assertion that executive action on immigration and environmental policies is somehow defiant of voters’ wishes/opinions is not shared by this reader.
There has been no national referendum on either of these important policies; and in fact, one could assert that there is strong support for immigration reform and a vigilant environmental policy. For example: The Senate has passed a bipartisan bill on immigration reform and polls indicate more than 60 percent of voters are in support of this reform.
A headline and article of this nature belong on the editorial page and not presented as a factual presentation that a front-page headline would suggest.
