One of the aims of a college education is to experience new ideas and new viewpoints as a way to test our own viewpoints and shape our identity.
So when Penn State President President Eric Barron raised his hands with the black students, he was not only trying to promote healing of the deep division between blacks and whites in this country, he was also seeking to foster education in this community that is supposedly devoted to fostering education.
So I’m having trouble understanding why there are so many people that are unhappy with what he did. I think he should be commended for his actions, not criticized.
