Our hearts are broken once again. Only in America can we expect mass shootings to regularly assault our sense of justice, our concern for the safety of our friends and families and the peaceful rhythms of our lives.
Umpqua Community College is now on the growing list of horrors. Even though these tragedies happen so often that they seem to be a normal part of the American landscape, we must wake up to the possibilities of taking action against gun violence and for greater controls on guns and ammunition.
I applaud Hillary Clinton for immediately voicing her position against gun violence and for sensible gun control. I would like to hear such statements from the other candidates who would like to lead our country. Who has the courage to lead us to a more peaceful and safer place?
