I am writing to alert the Bellefonte community that there will be a public hearing on the Bellefonte Water Authority’s decision to stop fluoridation of our community drinking water.
The hearing will be in the Bellefonte Borough Council chambers at 236 W. Lamb St., Bellefonte, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday.
The U.S. surgeon general has called fluoridation “one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.” The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion states that scientific evidence shows that fluoridation is safe and effective, “ultimately reducing tooth decay by about 25 percent in children and adults.” The American Dental Association reports that “Every $1 invested in water fluoridation saves $38 in dental treatment costs.”
I encourage everyone who drinks water supplied by the Bellefonte Borough to attend the public hearing and ask the Water Authority to continue safe and effective fluoridation of our community water supply.
Never miss a local story.
