I’m sick and tired of “partisan politics” every time a new budget comes up in this state and the legislature is of a different party than that of the governor.
On one hand we are being told that the 1/2 percent increase in sales tax is way too hard on working families, worried about the extraction tax proposed on the oil companies of 10 percent. Thirteen states allow “fracking” but in the last budget they had no problem increasing the sales tax on gas by 50 cents a gallon, which was the highest tax increase in the history of our state.
The truth of the matter is they are procedures; 11 of them charge the gas company an extraction tax. Pennsylvania is only one of two that do not. Due to the budget stalemate no one is receiving the type of funds that they should be, with one exception, our well-paid legislators.
I say stop their pay and benefits until a budget is reached, and we will soon see some action. I don’t know about anyone else, but how many people can get away with being paid full time for not doing their job?
Never miss a local story.
This bill is currently “in committee.” What do you think its chances are of ever coming out of there? We all know who votes on that; I bet we see some bipartisan movement on that baby.
