Penns Valley rallies for win at Hollidaysburg
Penns Valley rallied from a five-point deficit to open the fourth quarter to upend Hollidaysburg 57-53 in girls’ basketball Monday night.
On the final day of games before teams turn in records for the District 6 tournament, the Lady Rams (16-5) earned the upset after trailing 38-33 at the start of the final frame.
Isabella Culver’s 20 points and Hannah Montminy’s 18 led the way, with Montminy sinking 12 of her 14 free throws for the majority of her points.
“That was a big win for our girls,” coach Karen McCaffrey said. “Isabella Culver played an outstanding game in the post and Hannah Montminy made her free throws — both of them had big games.”
Penns Valley closes the regular season at Southern Huntingdon on Wednesday.
SJCA wins again to close regular season
BOALSBURG St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy closed its regular season with a 53-41 victory over Moshannon Valley, running its win streak to eight straight games.
The Lady Wolves (19-3) were led in scoring by Selena Mann’s 18 points, Denaya Poston-Cooper’s 14 and Kathleen Simander’s 11. SJCA also made 7 of 9 free throws in the final quarter to help lock up the victory.
McKenzie McCoy’s 11 points led the Damsels.
SJCA will play in the MAC Championship Game at 2 p.m. Saturday against Linden Hall at Greenwood High School.
Grace Prep falls on road
JOHNSTOWN A pair of double-digit scorers wasn’t enough in Grace Prep’s 59-33 loss to Cambria County Christian.
Zac Sechler netted 11 points and Carl Oelhaf had 10 for the Storm (10-7) while Isaac Fenchak scored 24 for Cambria Christian. Grace Prep is back on the court Tuesday, hosting Belleville Mennonite.
