Long bus rides and late nights are in the future for Centre County’s three basketball teams preparing for the second round of the PIAA tournament.
State College’s boys’ and girls’ teams, and the Penns Valley girls, will each have to travel more than an hour for their games and will have tipoff times of 7:30 p.m.
Both girls games will be played Tuesday. State College has the shortest ride — to Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg — to face Bethel Park in a Class 6A game. Penns Valley will head south to Harrisburg, meeting York Catholic at Central Dauphin East High School.
The Lady Rams (21-5) defeated Seton LaSalle 54-47 in their PIAA opener, while York Catholic (14-13) beat Mastery Charter South 62-40. The Lady Little Lions (15-10) earned a 55-45 win over Dallastown, and Bethel Park (18-6) topped Peters Township 44-35.
The Little Lion boys will hit the court Wednesday to meet Pine-Richland at the University of Pittsburgh’s Johnstown campus. The Little Lions (24-1) won their opener 73-65 over Woodland Hills, while the Rams (21-6) topped Pittsburgh Central Catholic 75-64.
The schedule is a big departure from the first round of Friday and Saturday, when all three of those teams got to play at Bald Eagle Area High School.
