Bellefonte scored a pair of dramatic wins in the VFW Teener League Area 5 Tournament for 15-16 year-olds, beating Mount Union 12-11 in eight innings on Tuesday and Huntingdon 10-9 on Sunday.
Bellefonte led Mount Union 8-1 before a nine-run fifth inning put Mount Union in the lead. A Taylor Butts two-run home run tied the game in the sixth. In the eighth, Zach Musser led off the inning with a single, and after stealing second and being sacrificed to third, a pair of intentional walks loaded the bases before Trent Fortney singled to center field to end the contest.
Adam Kuhn belted a solo homer in the fourth inning, Storm Smith had a pair of doubles and Fortney and Butts each finished with three hits for Bellefonte. Bubba Alterio earned the win.
Against Huntingdon, a double steal plated the game-winning run. Derek Fries stole second base, and when the throw went to second Darren Heeman broke for home. That made the score 10-8.
Never miss a local story.
Huntingdon rallied with one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Musser tracked down a fly ball with the bases loaded and two out to secure the win.
Kuhn ripped a solo homer and plated three runs with his three hits, wile Kodiak Heaton and Konnor Barton each homered for Huntingdon.
