The skinny: Bellefonte’s rough season only promises to get worse as one of the state’s top Class AAA teams, and one of its top athletes, come to Rogers Stadium.
Clearfield rolls into town averaging nearly 45 points per game and the Red Raiders are giving up more than 48 points per contest. Every opponent has scored more than 40 against Bellefonte, while the Bison’s worst offensive game was a 35-point night against Central.
The Bison are led by quarterback Christian Lezzer, who is headed to Boston College to play as a safety or linebacker. He is dangerous every time he carries the ball, having rushed for 828 yards and 14 touchdowns on 106 carries. He’s completed just 17 of 38 passes, but those completions have gone for 419 yards and three scores.
Throw in standout tailback Tyler Stratton (72 carries, 468 yards, 7 TDs) and the Bison average a whopping 361 yards a game on the ground.
Clearfield enters the contest having thumped Class AAAA Central Mountain 49-13.
The Red Raiders suffered a 53-6 loss to Tyrone last week. They’ve now been outscored 242-33 this season.
One ray of sunshine last week was the play of Jon Kerschner, who rushed for 60 yards on six carries. Quarterback Mark Armstrong was 7 of 16 for 69 yards.
