A pair of State College graduates have been honored for their academic and athletic accomplishments while playing basketball at Juniata College.
Kate McDonald and Brian Scholly have been selected for Capital One Academic All-District honors. The College Sports Information Directors of America make the selections. The award is given to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and athletically.
Scholly has a 3.72 GPA as a history major. He has 95 rebounds, 33 assists, six steals, five blocks and a 12.6 points-per-game scoring average. Juniata is 12-7
McDonald is the first Juniata female athlete to earn all-district honors and one of two Landmark Conference athletes selected. She is majoring in business management with a secondary emphasis in communication. The senior forward is averaging 10.7 rebounds and 16.6 points per game, both of which lead the Eagles this season. She also has 66 assists, 75 steals and 21 blocks. Juniata is 9-10.

Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) is 21-0 after picking up a fall in a 41-3 rout of Buffalo. He is ranked No. 1 in the country at 141 pounds. He now has 85 career wins, one of five starters who have reached that milestone. Teammate AJ Schopp, a Tyrone graduate, is ranked second at 133, where he is 25-1 and has 97 career wins. Edinboro is 8-3.
Leo Wortman (Bellefonte, Stevens Tech) fell to 11-9 after suffering a pair of losses last weekend as Stevens lost 36-5 to Ursinus and 21-19 to Johns Hopkins
Dennis Fisher (Bald Eagle Area, Juniata) has 23 rebounds, five assists, two steals, five blocks and a 1.7 scoring average.
Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) leads the team in scoring with a 14.9 average. She also averages 7.9 rebounds per game to go with 31 assists, 33 steals and four blocks. Mansfield is 0-20.
Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) averages 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds. She has 21 assists and 14 steals. Greensburg is 10-9.
Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has four rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and a 1.2 scoring average. St. Francis is 8-12.
Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) has a 5.9 scoring average and a 1.4 rebound average. She has 13 assists and 13 steals. Kutztown is 6-13.
Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) averages 6.5 points and 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals. Truman State is 15-4.
Kaitlyn Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) has 176 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals, 29 blocks and a 10.8 scoring average. Fayette is 10-8.
Mary Pillot (BEA, PSU-DuBois) had six points, three rebounds, a steal, five assists and a block in a 78-54 loss to Penn State Brandywine. DuBois is 4-13.
Maddie Bastress (Penns Valley, Washington & Jefferson) has 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a 0.9 scoring average. W&J is 13-6.
Sam Eaton (State College, Dickinson) was second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes, 13.12 seconds and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team that posted a time of 3:35.30 in a dual meet win over Franklin and Marshall.
