For the second time this spring a former Centre County athlete has thrown a perfect game for the Penn State-Altoona softball team.
Last month it was ex-Philipsburg-Osceola standout Kate Burge.
On Saturday it was Bellefonte graduate Raychel DeArmitt who threw the perfecto, this one in a 5-0 shutout against Medaille in the first game of a doubleheader. Coincidentally, Burge pitched a two-hitter to get the win in the second game.
DeArmitt struck out 10 batters in her gem and registered her 13th win of the season, tops in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. She has three losses.
The junior notched her first career collegiate perfect game and the fifth in Lady Lion program history.
She has a 2.90 ERA this season. In 94 innings she has allowed 91 hits and 43 runs, 39 earned, while walking 25 and striking out 103. At the plate she is hitting .293 with four runs scored, 12 hits, two doubles, a triple and 11 RBIs. Penn State-Altoona is 23-8 overall and 12-4 in the AMCC.
