The Bellefonte Teener baseball team managed only three hits Friday afternoon, but really made them count.
Bellefonte took advantage of some wild pitching and sloppy fielding to drop Hollidaysburg 8-2 in the opening round of the Pennsylvania VFW 13-14 year-old Teener State Tournament at Clearfield High School.
While Bellefonte managed just the three hits, including a Caden Lucas RBI double in the third inning and a Dylan Dietrick RBI single in the sixth, the team was assisted by plenty of walks, three hit batters and four Hollidaysburg errors.
Dan Catchmark pitched five shutout innings for the win, striking out four and allowing just three hits while the defense behind him was error free. The lead nearly slipped away in the sixth inning when Hollidaysburg cut the margin to 5-2 and had the bases loaded with one out, but Adam Armstrong slammed the door for the save, with three of the final five outs on strikeouts.
The eight-team tournament continues Saturday, with Bellefonte facing East Shore Stammel, from the Hershey area, at 1 p.m. at Clearfield High School.
