Adam Armstrong tossed a three-hitter as Bellefonte advanced to the winner’s bracket final on the state VFW Teener 13-14 Tournament with a 5-0 blanking of East Shore Stammel on Saturday.
Bellefonte will face Mount Union, which knocked off Philipsburg, at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the winner advancing to the championship round.
Armstrong struck out two and walked two in the contest. He was backed by outstanding defense. Right fielder Caleb Lucas and center fielder Brock Hanscom each made diving catches to help preserve the shutout.
Bellefonte did all of its offensive damage early.
In the bottom of the first, Dan Catchmark doubled and later scored on a groundout by Armstrong to give Bellefonte a 1-0 lead.
Bellefonte tacked on four runs in the second. Catchmark’s single plated Eric Peggs and Lucas to make it 3-0. Dylan Deitrich followed with a RBI single to plate Nate Spicer. Catchmark came home on another RBI groundout by Armstrong.
Catchmark and Deitrich each had two of Bellefonte’s six hits. Jordan Spiddle had two hits for East Shore Stammel.
