Bellefonte erased a one-run deficit with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and secured a spot in the State VFW 13-14 Teener League championship game with an 11-5 victory over Mount Union on Sunday.
Bellefonte will meet either Mount Union or East Shore Stammel at 11 a.m. for the the title. Mount Union leads East Shore Stammel 3-1 through five innings when rain halted the elimination bracket final on Sunday. The winner of that game must beat Bellefonte twice on Monday. If Bellefonte falls in Monday’s first game, the championship contest will be played at 2 p.m.
Trailing 3-1, Bellefonte took the lead with a three-run third. Adam Armstrong cracked an RBI double and Steve Kutches had an RBI single in the inning.
Mount Union rebounded with two runs in the top of the fourth to go up 5-4, but Bellefonte responded with its four-run outburst. Dylan Deitrich and Armstrong each belted RBI doubles in the frame, while Caleb Lucas added a RBI single.
Dan Catchmark shut down Mount Union over the final three innings. Catchmark struck out seven and walked five in an eight-hitter.
Deitrich had three hits to lead Bellefonte’s 12-hit attack. Armstrong and Kutches added two hits apiece.
