NEW YORK (AP) – Penn State will make its first postseason appearance since 2011 when it plays Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 27.
The Nittany Lions (6-6) return to postseason play after the NCAA lifted their bowl ban in September. Penn State originally was banned from bowl for four years as a result of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal in 2012 but the NCAA lifted the ban midway through this season.
The Lions, who played in the TicketCity Bowl in 2011, are going to a bowl for a 45th time, ninth most in college football.
Boston College (7-5) brings a three-game win streak into the bowl.
The Nittany Lions and Eagles last met in 2004. Penn State leads the series 19-4. The former independents played every season from 1981-92.
