Ex-Bellefonte wrestler Mitchell Port won the ultimate trophy at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships last week.
Port, wrestling at 141 pounds, won his second Midlands crown and was voted the Art Kraft Champion of Champions at the tournament. He defeated Virginia Tech’s Devin Carter 4-1 in the finals. Carter was an NCAA runner-up a year ago. Port is now 19-0 this season and ranked No. 2 at his weight in the nation.
Edinboro placed fourth in the tournament as a team. The event was won by Iowa, which scored a record 189 points.
Edinboro’s AJ Schopp, a Tyrone graduate, placed fourth at 133. He lost to Lance Richards of Illinois 1-0 in the semifinals and then medical-forfeited in the third-place consolation match. He’s 15-2.
Nick Shawley (Bellefonte, Clarion) was 1-3 and placed sixth at 184 pounds at the Lock Haven Invitational. He was wrestling unattached.
Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) is averaging 2.1 points and 1.1 rebounds for Juniata, which is 3-9.
Dennis Fisher (BEA, Juniata) averages 3.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He also averages 1.1 assists. Juniata is 5-6.
Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has a 4.1 scoring average and 1.6 rebound average. She has 18 assists, 11 steals and one blocked shot. Greensburg is 5-5.
Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) averages 3.7 points per game. She has five rebounds, two assists and six steals. Kutztown is 5-7.
Alexis Frank (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is averaging 1.0 point per game with two rebounds and two steals. The Lions are 2-7.
Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) is averaging 3.2 points per game. He has 15 rebounds, 10 assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Stony Brook is 9-6.
Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has nine rebounds and a 1.6 scoring averages to go with three steals and six assists. St. Francis is 1-11.
Kaitlin Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) is averaging 9.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.4 blocked shots per game. Fayette is 4-6.
Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) has a 7.8 scoring average with 31 rebounds, 26 assists and 19 steals. Truman State is 9-4.
