The Little Lions extended their postseason with a 54-19 win over Altoona in the District 6 Class AAA Team Tournament on Wednesday.
State College (10-7) won 10 of 14 bouts — five by falls, three by forfeit and two decisions — to hammer the Mountain Lions. The Little Lions earned a semifinal matchup against Central Mountain, a team that beat State College 62-9 on Saturday.
Pete Haffner (220), Jack Vandevort (285), Lucas Jennerman (132), Ian Barr (138) and Dalton Barger (145) all pinned their Altoona foes. Haffner flattened Jacob Leonard in 1:08 and Vandevort gave the Little Lions a 21-0 lead when he ran David Hess over on his shoulders for a fall in 2:31 in the very next bout.
Altoona finally got on the board six bouts into the dual when Cole Manley beat Adam Stover 17-0 for a technical fall in 5:51 at 113 pounds. The Mountain Lions cut State College’s lead to 27-11 when Hunter Hileman pinned Trey Millward in 5:43 at 120 pounds.
But the Little Lions would win five of the next seven bouts. Jennerman had little trouble against Tristan Grassmyer and pinned the Altoona grappler in 1:34 at 132 pounds. Barr kept the pin party going with a fall over Michael Sarbo at 138. Barr needed 3:32 to fasten Sarbo to the mat. Barger got the final fall of the night for State College at 145 when he pinned Gabe Guido in just 1:30.
Will Roeshot and Jared Price added decision wins for State College. Roeshot beat Brinton Simington 9-2 to open the dual at 182 pounds and Price turned in an 8-5 decision over Dylan Riscigno at 152.
Altoona forfeited 195, 106 and 126 pounds to Cory Dreibelbis, Jacob Pammer and Anthony Myers, respectively.
