State College advanced to the championship game of the Lock Haven 18-U Wood Bat Tournament before falling Sunday.
In the semifinals, every starter had a hit, and State College racked up 11 as a team, in an 8-3 victory against Greensburg’s Team All American. Pete Haffner and Tristan Ballenger each had two hits and an RBI to lead the charge, with Haffner collecting a double. Oliver Dailey struck out four, walked five and allowed five hits in five innings for the win.
In the finals at Lock Haven University’s Foundation Field, State College lost 4-1 to the Mid Penn Panthers from Harrisburg.
Zach Herring’s three-hit effort stifled the State College bats, striking out three and walking four. Ballinger struck out six in five-plus innings in the loss.
Haffner doubled for State College, and Jeff Rossavio and Zach Stawer each knocked in runs for the Panthers.
The contest closed the season for State College’s American Legion team.
