Everything you missed in Penn State sports — and isn’t listed elsewhere in the CDT — from Oct. 10, 2017:
PSU falls to Pitt in OT
PITTSBURGH With 90 seconds left in overtime, Pitt’s Javi Perez found the back of the net to steal the 3-2 victory from Penn State on Tuesday night.
Never miss a local story.
The Nittany Lions needed help of their own to make it that far, however. Pitt led 2-1 with less than a minute left in regulation — when Penn State’s Ethan Beckford scored his second goal of the season at the 89:36 mark. That pushed the game into the extra period, where Pitt pulled away.
The Panthers out-shot the Nittany Lions 30-6 — 13-4 on shots on goal — as Penn State’s goalkeeper finished with 10 saves.
PSU is now 2-8-2 and will next face Michigan State on the road Saturday.
Basinger named to team of the week
Penn State defender Brittany Basinger was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week after recording one goal and one assist during two shutouts last week.
The Nittany Lions defeated Michigan 2-0 and then beat Michigan State 4-0. Basinger played for 150 minutes in those two games. It’s her second career TopDrawerSoccer honor.
Schafer earns weekly honor
ROSEMONT, Ill. Penn State senior Megan Schafer was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals on four attempts last week against the Spartans and Wolverines.
Minnesota’s Sydney Squires shared the award with her. It’s the first such weekly award for Schafer.
