Penn State swimmers Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo and Rory Lewis each earned weekly accolades from the Big Ten on Wednesday.
Gonzalez-Hermosillo was selected as the Big Ten Women’s Swimming Freshman of the Week after winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.37 against Emory on Saturday. She was part of the 200 medley relay team’s third-place effort (1:47.11), too. Gonzalez-Hermosillo also finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.15) and took fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:06.10) against Georgia Tech and Liberty on Friday.
Lewis was awarded Big Ten Men’s Swimming Freshman of the Week honors. Lewis was second in the 100-yard butterfly (50.48) and third in the 200 freesyle (1:41.02) against Georgia Tech. Lewis and his teammates took first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:04.23) and third in the 400 medley relay (3:24.67) in the meet.
Against Emory, he won the 200 butterfly (1:49.26) and contributed to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:34.20). Lewis was second in the 100 freestyle (46.27).
