Penn State nearly earned a sweep in all three events Saturday in the first day of the Nittany Lion Cup at the White Building.
Penn State took the top three spots in epee and sabre, and had second and third in foil.
While Penn State was well-represented, all fencers competed unattached, meaning they competed as individuals and not representing their school or club.
Sweeping the top three in mixed epee were Samuel Freiman, Joshua Cole and Patrick August. Mixed sabre was taken by Kaito Streets, Karol Metryka and Khalil Thompson. Clarisse Luminet and Julian Fevry were second and third, respectively, in mixed foil.
The event continues at 10 a.m. Sunday.
