Nittany Lions’ split with Bison
Penn State had its four-game winning streak halted, but bounced back to split a doubleheader with Bucknell on Sunday.
The Nittany Lions (10-13) fell 1-0 in the opener and won 6-2 in the nightcap.
Greg Welsh tossed a three-hitter in the seven-inning opener, but fell to 0-4 on the season thanks to an unearned run. Bucknell’s Andrew Andreychik (2-2) tossed a four-hit shutout with no walks and five strikeouts. Steve Snyder had two of Penn State’s hits.
Leading 1-0 in the nine-inning second game, the Nittany Lions exploded for four runs in the second. The Nittany Lions turned four hits and two errors into the runs.
Jim Haley paced Penn State’s 11-hit attack with three singles. Alex Malinsky added two hits, while J.J. White and Tyler Kendall drove in two runs each.
Nick Hedge pitched four shutout innings before giving way to reliever Ryan Harper (1-0). Dakota Forsyth pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the save.
Joe Ogren, Jon Mayer and Anthony Gingerelli had two hits for the Bison (8-11-1).
