Three-time defending Big Ten champion Penn State will open the coming season in Preseason WNIT against Towson at noon on Nov. 14, part of a 12-game non-conference schedule.
Of the Lady Lions’ eight known opponents, two made the NCAA Tournament last season. Penn State returns just one starter.
“Our schedule will help this group of young players gain crucial game experience in non-conference play, while simultaneously, preparing us for the rigors of the new-look Big Ten,” Lady Lion coach Coquese Washington said in a university release. “Although we’ll have many new faces in new roles, our fans can still count on us to play a fun and exciting brand of basketball. The Bryce Jordan Center will definitely be rocking again this year.”
Fans will get their first look at the Lady Lions with an exhibition game Nov. 2 against IUP, which has hired former Lady Lion great Kelly Mazzante as an assistant coach.
The Lady Lions will play at least three games as a participant in the Preseason WNIT, beginning with Towson. The second round game will take place on Nov. 16, followed by the third game on Nov. 20. If the Lady Lions advance to the Preseason WNIT championship game, they will host the contest on Nov. 23.
Penn State hosts St. Bonaventure on Nov. 25, the travels to the Georgia State Thanksgiving Tournament and faces Middle Tennessee State on Nov. 28. The Lady Lions will meet either Georgia State or Samford on Nov. 30.
Penn State travels to Syracuse for the The ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 4, before returning home to meet Wagner on Dec. 7. Penn State travels to Hartford for its final non-conference road game on Dec. 10.
The Lady Lions host Rider on Dec. 14 and South Florida on Dec. 21 to close out non-conference slate.
