Penn State’s vaunted 2015 recruiting class grew stronger on Friday.
The Nittany Lions picked up a verbal commitment from cornerback John Reid — a four-star prospect as ranked by multiple recruiting outlets who is entering his senior year at St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia). Reid announced his commitment on his Twitter account.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Reid is considered the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2015 class in Pennsylvania. His commitment gives James Franklin and his staff seven of the Top 10 players in the state so far. Meanwhile, Reid is the first corner to commit to Penn State in the current class. He joins safeties Ayron Monroe, Myles Hartsfield and Jarvis Miller as defensive backs in the current crop of recruits.
Reid had offers from Alabama, Arizona and Boston College while Big Ten foes Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, Rutgers and Maryland also offered him scholarships.
Penn State has at least one four-star prospect at offensive tackle, guard, quarterback, defensive tackle, running back and wide receiver and linebacker in the 2015 class which is rated as the No. 5 overall class in the country according to 24/7 Sports. Only Alabama, Texas A&M, Clemson and South Carolina are ranked higher.
