Penn State fans can now buy Nike shoes designed for Nittany Lions fanatics for a pretty penny — $110 to be exact — beginning Wednesday. Penn State is one of 13 fan bases for which Nike rolled out shoes this week, with others including juggernaut programs like Ohio State, Michigan State and Alabama.
It is part of Nike’s “Week Zero” kickoff to the football season.
“After months of preparation, training and practice, all of the hard work that athletes put in come together on Week Zero — the unofficial kickoff to the college football season,” a Nike press release said. “With the season beginning in two weeks, Nike is harnessing the passion and energy of 13 college football programs by releasing the Week Zero Collection.”
“The collection features the Nike Free Trainer 5.0, punctuated by complimentary university colors and complete with school logos,” the release added. “By providing locked-down support while allowing mobility for the foot to move naturally, this men’s training shoe meets the needs and demands of intense multi-sport workouts. Nike worked closely with the schools to make sure each product represents the culture and essence of their programs.”
A vine of the shoes was posted out by the official Penn State Football Twitter account last week.
Update: The shoes were sold out of Nike.com as of 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
