Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib was among the athletes named to the midseason watch list Monday for the Ted Hendricks Award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive end.
The senior leads the FBS in sacks (13 1/2), tackles for loss (17 1/2) and forced fumbles (5). He has a sack in each of the Nittany Lions’ games this season, and has five multi-sack games. Nassib’s sack total is the most since Michael Haynes posted 15 in 2002, tying the school record also reached by Larry Kubin in 1979.
The Hendricks Award committee will announce a final watch list in late November, narrow the list to 4-6 finalists and announce a winner Dec. 9.
Penn State hosts Illinois at Beaver Stadium at noon Saturday.
