Freshman Megan Schafer scored a pair of goals to lead Penn State over Connecticut 3-1 on Friday evening at Jeffrey Field.
Schafer’s feat is the first for a freshman since Tani Costa scored twice against Purdue in 2010.
Mallory Weber got the Nittany Lions on the board first with a goal five minutes into the game before Schafer hit the net twice later in the first half.
The Huskies’ Rachel Hill spoiled the shutout attempt by Britt Eckerstrom, who made five saves, with just under seven minutes remaining in the game.
