The Penn State women’s soccer team posted its fifth shutout of the season, blanking Northwestern 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Toyota Park.
Mallory Weber netted what proved to be the game-winner in the ninth minute. Emily Ogle set up the goal, the sixth of the season and 34th of her career for Weber, moving the senior into a tie for 10th place with Christine Nairn on Penn State’s all-time scoring list.
Raquel Rodriguez added to the lead with a 25-yard strike in the 27th minute, and freshman Alina Ortega-Jurado closed the scoring with her first career goal, sending the ball over the Wildcat keeper’s head from 20 yards out.
Britt Eckerstrom made two saves for the shutout as the No. 12 Nittany Lions (8-2-2, 3-1-1 Big Ten) held a 10-3 shot advantage. No. 24 Northwestern (9-2-2, 3-1-1) had allowed just four goals all season.
