COLUMBUS, Ohio The Penn State women’s volleyball team needed a rally in the final set but managed to sweep Ohio State 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 Wednesday night at St. John Arena.
The No. 1 Nittany Lions (19-1, 9-1) trailed 21-19 in the final frame before notching six of the final seven points to lock up the win. Ohio State has not beaten Penn State since 2006, now a run of 11 straight wins.
Katie Slay and Ariel Scott paced the offense with 14 kills apiece while Megan Courtney and Deja McClendon each added seven. Slay also had three blocks, Micha Hancock gave out 38 assists and Dominique Gonzalez picked up 15 digs.
Kaitlyn Leary’s eight kills, Amanda Peterson’s 24 assists and three blocks, Mariah Booth’s three blocks and Emily Danks’ four aces led the No 20 Buckeyes (15-6, 6-3).
The Nittany Lions held a 53-29 edge in kils, a 7-5 advantage in blocks and hit .342 to Ohio State’s .144.
The match began a run of four straight road contests, with visits to Michigan on Saturday, Iowa on Oct. 24 and No. 4 Nebraska on Oct. 28.
