Penn State added another heavyweight to the roster on Monday.
Jan Johnson of the Nittany Lion football team joined the wrestling program. It was reported Sunday that head coach Cael Sanderson had approached football head coach James Franklin about the move.
Monday morning, Johnson appeared on the wrestling team’s online roster.
The Governor Mifflin High School graduate is a two-time PIAA champion. Johnson is also still on Penn State’s football roster, according to the school’s website.
The move comes a few days after Nick Nevills, who was the lone heavyweight on the roster, was held out of an open practice. A wrestling program spokesperson will only confirm that Nevills is “a little banged up,” and his status is unknown.
