closePSU DIGEST Nittany Lions boot No. 22 Boilermakers
From CDT staff reports
UNIVERSITY PARK — It took until her last home game of her last season in a Penn State uniform, but Tara Davies finally scored her first collegiate goal.
The senior defender celebrated in style, too, with a somersault to punctuate Senior Day at Jeffrey Field as the No. 25 Nittany Lions dropped No. 22 Purdue 4-0 Sunday.
Danielle Toney scored twice and senior Melissa Hayes added the other goal — also her first of the season — as Penn State (11-5-2, 7-1-1 Big Ten) moved closer to its 12th straight conference title. The Nittany Lions, who are unbeaten in their last eight games and close the regular season next Sunday at Michigan, are tied atop the standings with Ohio State.
Christine Nairn picked up three assists, the most by a Nittany Lion since Hayes collected three against Bucknell in 2007. Jess Rosenbuth and Nikki Watts also collected assists to help in the scoring for Penn State, which leads the Big Ten with 27 goals in conference play.
The total was the most goals surrendered by the Boilermakers (10-5-3, 3-3-2) this season.
Alyssa Naeher made two saves in Penn State’s ninth shutout of the season.
