State College’s Brandon Clark and Ian Barr are the Centre Daily Times Athletes of the Week.
Clark dominated in Saturday’s 49-21 loss to Pine-Richland in the PIAA Class 6A quarterfinals, finishing with seven catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-4 wide receiver had five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the first half — accounting for all five completions by quarterback Tommy Friberg in the first two quarters.
“With the stuff that Brandon does in practice on a day-to-day basis, there’s nothing that that young man does that will surprise me,” State College coach Matt Lintal said. “He is a playmaker and when we get a matchup that we like, we’re going to exploit it.”
Clark also contributed on special teams with a 66-yard punt to pin Pine-Richland at the 1-yard line in the first quarter.
Never miss a local story.
Barr blocked a punt to set up his team’s first touchdown in the first quarter Saturday. The linebacker was also part of State College’s strong defensive effort in the first half against Pine-Richland’s high-scoring attack.
Barr combined on a tackle with defensive back Keaton Ellis that forced a fumble in the first quarter, and the senior linebacker forced a fumble on a kickoff return in the second quarter. He nearly forced another fumble in the first half, too.
