Bellefonte graduate Gwen Lowery, a senior at Penn State’s Behrend campus in Erie, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimmer of the Year for the second time in her career.
Lowery won the 400-yard individual medley for the first time at the AMCC championship meet, breaking the conference record with her time of 4 minutes, 46.48 seconds. She also won the 200 IM and was a part of four winning relay teams that had a hand in four more broken AMCC records during the meet. Lowery was a member of the 200-, 400- and 800-yard medley relays and the 800 freestyle relay.
Lowery added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle, beaten at the wall by a teammate who also broke a conference record. Her performances helped the Lions finish second as a team at the AMCC championships.
Lowery also won the Swimmer of the Year award as a sophomore.

Corey Hazel (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) is one of six Lock Haven wrestlers ranked by the wrestling coaches. He is ranked 22nd at 184 pounds with a 21-8 record heading into the Eastern Wrestling League tournament this weekend.
Trevor Corl (Bellefonte, Lycoming) placed third at the NCAA Southwest Regional with a 3-1 sudden victory in the consolation finals at 149. He is 33-3 and will be wrestling in the NCAA Division III tournament in Cleveland on March 9.
Zach Engle (Penns Valley, Juniata) averages 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds for the Eagles, who are 22-5 after losing to Moravian 81-78 in the Landmark Conference championship game.
Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) has a 5.5 scoring average and a 2.1 rebound average. He has 50 assists, seven steals and five blocks. Stony Brook is 12-18 and will play in the America East conference quarterfinals Saturday in Albany, N.Y.
Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Lock Haven) finished the season with a 6.3 scoring average and a 4.1 rebound average to go with 12 assists and a block. Lock Haven finished 5-21.
Kyla Irwin (State College, UConn) has played in 24 of UConn’s 28 games, averaging 2.8 points. She also has 33 rebounds, 16 assists, a block and seven steals. The No. 1 Huskies are 28-0 and finish the regular season at SMU on Saturday.
Jess Book (Bellefonte, Grove City) has a 3.6 scoring average and a 2.8 rebound average. She has 17 assists, 16 steals and a block.
Cass Book (Bellefonte, Grove City) averages 1.1 points per game and has four assists and two steals. Grove City is 18-9 after losing to Thomas More 90-45 in the Presidents Athletic Conference semifinals.
Tommy Sekunda (State College, Seton Hill) has a 4.8 scoring average to go with 48 rebounds, 19 assists, seven steals and three blocks. Seton Hill closed at 10-18.
Taylor Love (State College, Marymount) is averaging 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Marymount is 24-3 and won the Capital Conference title for an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
Ian Schrock (State College, Gettysburg) placed 10th in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.20, 12th in the 100 backstroke in 54.29 and 14th in the 100 butterfly in 53.24. He also was on the 200 freestyle relay, which had a time of 1:26.42, and the 800 freestyle relay that posted a time of 7:01. Both relay teams won their consolation finals as Gettysburg won the Centennial Conference for the 15th time and the seventh time in the last eight years.

Kylie Orndorf (Penns Valley, Juniata) placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 3 inches (10.44 meters) and fifth in the weight throw at 41-7 1/2 (12.69 meters) at the Landmark Conference meet.
Emma Federinko (Penns Valley, Misericordia) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run at the MAC championships.
Jason Costa (State College, Furman) is hitting .353 with four runs scored, six hits, two doubles, two homers and six RBIs. Furman is 3-4.
Haley Giedroc (BEA, PSU-Altoona) went 3 for 7 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs as Altoona split a doubleheader with Bridgewater College over the weekend.
Sidney Shultz (BEA, PSU-Altoona) pitched five innings and allowed a pair of runs, six hits and three walks as Altoona beat Bridgewater, 3-2
Abby Showers (P-O, PSU Altoona) was 4 for 7 with a double and two RBIs against Bridgewater.
Cassidy Stover (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice against Bridgewater.
