SPRING MILLS With the wind howling and the April air cold and bitter, Penns Valley fell behind 5-1 early against Central in high school baseball action on Wednesday.
However, the Rams (1-0) rallied for four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth for a season-opening 7-5 victory.
Wyatt Sharp started the rally with a leadoff double in the fifth and later scored on a Max Bair single. Sharp went 2 for 4 and scored twice for Penns Valley, who will host Huntingdon on Friday.
“That seemed to loosen us up a little,” said Penns Valley head coach Chuck Romig. “Sharp got things going with a double in the fifth and single in the sixth.”
Never miss a local story.
Luke Weaver and Colton Treaster each knocked in two runs. Cody Luse shut the door with two scoreless innings late for the win.
“Central gave us a licking the last two seasons,” Romig said. “Coming back to beat them despite the elements says a lot about this team. We can be a good team. Today (could be) the first step ”
