Last year (record): 4-14
Key players lost: Caleb Luse, Dakota Butler, Chris Belko, Nigel Grandy
Key returnees: Max Bair, Logan Coursen, Dakota Schrenkel, Cody Luse, Luke Weaver, Cameron Tobias, Taylor Collison.
Key newcomers: Kevin Butts, Adam DeGarmo, David Fox, David Keller, Logan Johnson, Anthony Montressor, Wyatt Sharp, Colton Treaster
The skinny: The Rams will be fairly young with just four seniors on the roster. The veterans will be a key to the team’s success this season. However, younger players could step into leadership roles as well. Romig said that if juniors like Cameron Tobias and Luke Weaver, as well as sophomores Wyatt Sharp and Colton Treaster, become major contributors, Rams’ baseball could be heading in the right direction. Former Ram Nigel Grandy will be an assistant coach after playing for Romig as a senior last season.
Coach Romig says: “We have a little bit more talent than we’ve had here in the last few years, although that doesn’t mean anything until you start winning games. It’s nice to have some depth. I’ve had to talk to the guys about there being some good players not starting and that’s what happens when you have good depth and that’s not a problem we’re accustomed to. It’s a good situation to be in and I’m looking forward to the season. … We just have to get on top and win some games off the bat and gain some confidence. I really think we can take off if we do.”
