The Skinny: Pitching will be a strength for Philipsburg-Osceola this season. The Mounties return with ace hurler Mark Curtis. The senior went 8-1 last season with a 3.22 ERA. If P-O wants to have another strong season the team must replace the leadership and skills of Mike Marcinko, who now plays shortstop at Shippensburg, and Parker Watson, who now pitches at Lock Haven.
Coach Sankey says: “Our top hitter returning was Andrew Greenawalt, but we lost him to a knee injury in wrestling. So, Mark Curtis is our top hitter and pitcher returning. Offensively, he hit .296 21 hits, 20 runs, 23 RBI. Pitching, he was All-state. Mark struck out 63 in 63 innings pitched. He is a power pitcher, good velocity and a strong curveball. Hitting, he is a line-drive hitter. We are concerned about our loss of senior leadership. We lost Mike Marcinko who is the starting shortstop at Shippensburg and Parker Watson, starting pitcher at Lock Haven, along with four other starters. Strengths are our pitchers. Besides Mark, we return Caleb Pepperday and Tanner Lamb. Our outfield is also back with Matt Carpin, Taylor Golemboski, and Pepperday.”
