When you start a game off strong, it usually leads to a win.
Central did just that on Friday night in a 63-7 rout of Bellefonte in a Mountain League matchup.
“Central has some guys that are very good athletes and create nightmare mismatches on the field for them,” Bellefonte coach Shanon Manning said. “We’ve faced some adversity this year, but adversity is what you make of it. It can sink your ship, if you let it, or you can use it as a building block.”
The Dragons raced out to a 35-7 first quarter lead thanks in part to “very good athletes” Bradi Moore and Austin Cunningham. Moore and Cunningham accounted for three scores each in the quarter alone.
Moore scored on a 40-yard run, a 19-yard interception return and a 46-yard pass from Cunningham. Cunningham’s other scores came by way of a 76-yard run and another passing score 36 yards to Trevor Forshey.
The Red Raiders were down 28-0 before they got their first and only score. Nick Jabco returned a Central kickoff 75 yards for the score.
Cunningham and Moore went on to account for one more score a piece. Cunningham connected with Nick Hoenstine for an 18-yard score in the second quarter. Moore had a 62-yard running touchdown in the third quarter.
In all, the Dragons had the mercy-rule clock running with the start of the second half after they came out with a 49-7 lead.
Moore lead Central, who amassed 360 rushing yards on 30 carries, with 125 yards rushing on six carries and had the one reception for 46 yards. Austin Conrath also went over the century mark with three carries for 103 yards for the Dragons. Cunningham finished the night 3 for 4 with 100 yards passing.
Bellefonte had only 103 yards of total offense with 64 coming on the ground. The Red Raiders were led by Jon Kerschner, who had 11 carries for 27 yards.
Bellefonte remains winless on the season and will travel to Bald Eagle Area next Friday.
