at Bald Eagle Area (4-4)
Time: 7 p.m.
Coaches: Belle— Shanon Manning. BEA— Jack Tobias
Last meeting: BEA 49, Bellefonte 7, this season
Key players to watch: BEA— Jason Jones, QB; Belle— Nick Jabco, RB/DB
The skinny: This annual Curtin Bowl may have lost its usual luster with BEA’s 49-7 romp earlier in the season and Bellefonte’s tough fall, but the contest has significant importance for the Eagles.
BEA currently is in the eighth and final spot to make the District 6 Class AA playoffs. The Eagles have 510 points and are 50 points clear of ninth-place Penns Valley. A win over Class AAA Bellefonte would put BEA in great shape with the regular-season finale against Ligonier Valley (6-2) looming.
BEA and quarterback Jason Jones dominated the Aug. 30 meeting between the two teams. Jones completed 6 of 7 tosses for 182 yards and three scores in the first half of the rout. Bryan Greene had four catches for 106 yards and a score and Dakota Bartley added 89 yards rushing and a score.
Bellefonte struggled offensively in that contest, netting just 60 yards on the ground and having three passes picked off.
BEA will look to rebound from a 31-6 loss to Clearfield last week. The Eagles have scored a total of just 30 points in their four losses.
Bellefonte suffered a 63-7 setback at Central, a school-record 15th consecutive loss. The Red Raiders have scored more than one touchdown just twice this season. Last week, they got a 98-yard kickoff return from Nick Jabco.
